Disability, Welfare, Opioids...

Nick King, Erin Strumpf and I just published a new editorial in Annals of Internal Medicine on the potential association between changes to welfare policy in the 1990s, the subsequent rise of the disability rolls (particularly for mental health and musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain), and the extraordinary rise in deaths from drug overdoses related to prescription opioids (and now, increasingly, heroin). An ungated version of the paper will be available for 6 months here.
